THE ELDER
ABUSE PREVENTION SERVICES (EAPS)
A standing
committee of the Council on Aging, the EAPS volunteers
will
· Provide
confidential support to seniors, caregivers, businesses,
and service providers
·
Help when a senior is at risk of financial,
physical or emotional abuse,
or if abuse has already
commenced
·
Be available to train your staff or volunteers to identify instances
where abuse may be present, and to take appropriate
action
SENSITIVE
AND EXPERIENCED – Our trained Peer Support workers will
inform a senior of his/her rights and offer the correct
information to allow the senior to make informed choices
for their safety.

2009- Free workshop on
renovation fraud, Presentations to Retirement Homes and
Staff
2009 – Presentation and
assistance organizing the Ontario-wide conference, March Forth
Against Elder Abuse, attended by 85 health and community
workers and members of the public. Speakers include Judith
Wahl, Constable Cathy Griffin, and Arlene
Groh.
2007- Began a partnership
with Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Centre at Kingston
General Hospital to reflect seniors in statistical
data
2005- Pioneered the Train the
Trainer Manual for Elder Abuse Prevention Peer Volunteers, now
shared by volunteers and organizations across the
province.
2002– Incorporated Elder
Abuse Services as a Standing Committee of the Council on
Aging
