SOS - Supportive Housing Project

Aug. 27, 2009 This fall and winter the Serving Our Seniors  supportive housing project located at Homestead Land Holdings Ltd.,Bowling Green II will add a critical new component, thanks to the KFL&A United Way One-Time Priority Needs Grant, who have provided funding for a Tenant Resource Coordinator.  The Co-ordinator will be available five days a week from 9 am to 4 pm to provide assistance in resourcing community services as well as participating in the planning of programs for the 35 seniors currently registered in the program. Kingston  VON will provide the direct supervision.

      Initial funding for this demonstration project was provided by the Federal New Horizons for Seniors Program with additional support from the City's Healthy Community Fund, which currently serves 35 seniors is located in  Homestead’s Bowling Green II on Bath  Road.  Homestead Land Holdings has been tremendously supportive oflonger by showing the viability of combining support services, exercise programmes and community dining experiences .    This is the second year of the three year special iniative of the Council on Aging.


      May 15, 2009    The Council on Aging is delighted to announce that the Kinsmen Club of Kingston has donated $9000 to the Council On Aging for assistance in developing and updating materials in the Elder Abuse Prevention Programme.
       A Kinsmen spokesperson noted "Since 1957, the Kingston Club of Kingston has been protecting our local seniors by providing them with safe and affordable housing, allowing them to live with dignity, and preserving their independence. Even though we have over 200 housing units, we fell more could, and should, be done for our local seniors. Kinsmen feel the Elder Abuse Prevention Programme offers essential services to our community, and are proud to support an initiative that protects one of the most vulnerable segments of society."
       The support of such forward-thinking organizations as the Kinsmen helps to maintain and increast the Council's efforts in providing a broad-based collection of services, including Peer to Peer Support, training programmes for various organizations, and public education.
