Sunshine Call Program

After receiving a call on our peer support line, the idea for the Sunshine Call Program was born.

The call was from a woman in her early 90s wanting to know if we had someone that could call her every morning to check in on her. After experiencing two significant losses in her life in less than 9 months, she was on her own and had no social supports. We passed her contact information on to one of our volunteers and each day for nearly 2 years, they started each day with a little chat.

Unfortunately, in early 2020, our senior caller passed away. As a council, we began to wonder if there was something we could do to help other lonely or isolated seniors in our community. After internal discussion, deliberation, and planning, we created the Sunshine Call Program.

With the recent COVID-19 outbreak and the need for social distancing, the launch of this pilot program could not have come at a better time.

By linking seniors to one another through daily phone conversations, this program seeks to help seniors make new social connections, reduce loneliness, and improve their quality of life, all without leaving the comfort and safety of their own homes.

If you are an isolated senior or know someone that is, click here to apply for the program.
